Alabaster Spain
An initiative of the Centro Integral para el Desarrollo del Alabastro in Teruel promoting alabaster through sculpture classes, artist residencies, symposiums, and exhibitions.
About Alabaster Spain
Working with alabaster in Teruel
Alabaster Spain is the public-facing initiative of the Centro Integral para el Desarrollo del Alabastro (CIDA), based in Albalate del Arzobispo, Teruel. It promotes alabaster as a material for art and construction. The center says the Ebro Valley between Teruel and Zaragoza accounts for 95% of the world’s production of this mineral.
Classes and workshops
CIDA teaches alabaster techniques through introductory classes, advanced workshops, and focused courses. Subjects include alabaster sculpture, alabaster plaster, and other in-person and online courses. Its approach combines theory with hands-on practice.
Programs for artists
Calls for creators include an International Sculpture Symposium, artist residencies, shorter artistic stays, and a mini-symposium.
Exhibitions beyond the center
Through its Alabastro in itinere program, alabaster works are shown in cultural centers, museums, and galleries. Exhibitions cited by the organization include Cuerpos Etéreos in Alcorisa and a show of the same name in Gelsa.
The initiative also maintains a presence on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
