Fruitona is the brand of Cooperativa del Camp Sant Gaietà, a fruit-growing cooperative founded in 1985 by 48 stone-fruit growers in Aitona, in the Segrià region of Lleida. The cooperative’s production has grown from an initial 5,000 tons to approximately 30,000–32,000 tons a year, according to figures it reports.

Fruit

The cooperative focuses on stone fruit, especially:

  • Nectarines.
  • Peaches (préssecs).
  • Flat peaches (paraguayos).
  • Flat nectarines (platerinas).
  • Smaller quantities of apricots and quinces.

Its products are sold under two brands: Fruitona and Fruitona Seduction, which the cooperative reserves for its highest-quality fruit.

Growing region

Most orchards are around Aitona, in southern Segrià, on a fertile plain formed by the Segre River. Irrigated agriculture has historically been central to the region’s economy.
