Bulgarian language and culture in the Canary Islands
VELIKA, Asociación Búlgara en Canarias (Spanish tax ID G-76825215), is a cultural association based in Adeje, Tenerife. It brings together members of the islands' Bulgarian community through language and cultural education and community events.
AzBuki Bulgarian school
The association's main project is AzBuki, a Bulgarian school in the Canary Islands. It follows its own academic calendar: the school year began on September 30, 2024, and registration opened in 2025 for the 2025–26 academic year. In May 2025, it held an end-of-year concert and performance for its fifth academic year. Zhivka Mihneva oversees the school's educational program.
Library and cultural activities
The association runs DAS VIDA, described as the Canary Islands' first Bulgarian library. It also organizes cultural celebrations, including Christmas, Baba Marta, international migrant gatherings, and activities with the traditional-dance group Horo.
