FYN Restaurant: modern African cuisine in Cape Town

FYN Restaurant is a fine dining establishment located on the fifth floor of Speakers Corner, in the centre of Cape Town. Its offering is defined as modern African cuisine that follows Japanese culinary philosophy: seasonal, restrained and focused on the inherent character of each ingredient. The restaurant's name is inspired by fynbos, a biodiverse plant kingdom unique to the Cape region.

The dining experience is conceived as an emotive reflection of land and sea, with menus that combine flavours, textures and memories. The team is led by chef founder Peter Tempelhoff, alongside culinary director Ashley Moss and sommelier and service director Jennifer Hugé.

The venue occupies the fifth floor of Speakers Corner, at 37 Parliament Street, in the heart of Cape Town. The description of the space alludes to contrasts: darkness and light, expansiveness and intimacy, the raw and the refined. The experience is sustained, according to its own presentation, by dedication, collaboration and a constant attention to detail.

International recognition

FYN Restaurant has appeared on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list in several editions. In 2025 it was placed 82nd in the world; in 2024, 60th; in 2023, 75th, the year in which it also received the Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award; in 2022 it reached 37th place and was recognised as the best restaurant in Africa; and in 2021 it was placed 92nd.

Opening hours and reservations

The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday. Lunch seating is from 12:00 to 14:00, and dinner seating from 18:00 to 20:30. Reservations are available through the website, and the site indicated that summer reservations were open. Gift vouchers are also available for purchase.
