Hathaway Scholarship 2026: new award levels and requirements for Wyoming graduates

Starting Fall 2026, Hathaway awards rise: Honors $2,360, Performance $1,770, and Opportunity/Provisional $1,180 per 12-credit semester. Academic and residency rules apply.

The Hathaway Scholarship is Wyoming aid for students who complete the state’s high-school requirements and continue at the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college. A law signed in February 2026 raises awards beginning Fall 2026: per 12-credit semester, Honors rises to $2,360, Performance to $1,770, and Opportunity/Provisional to $1,180. The Hathaway Need Grant also increases for levels other than Honors.

Eligibility is based on graduating from a Wyoming high school—including approved homeschool or equivalency pathways—and meeting rigorous curriculum, GPA or test-score, residency, and level-specific criteria. Transfers who never activated Hathaway must send an official transcript and test scores for an initial eligibility review. Awards are prorated below 12 credits and may cover only part of tuition and fees.

To receive funds, tell the institution during admission that you plan to use Hathaway and submit documents before campus certification dates. Renewal depends on academic requirements, credits, time since graduation, and term limits; rules changed recently, so avoid tables published before 2026. The additional Need Grant has its own formula and may vary with documented need.

Compare your Hathaway level with your transcript and campus costs before selecting classes. UW or each community college confirms the level, covered charges, and disbursement schedule. Ask whether fees or housing count, what happens if you drop credits, and how the grant coordinates with Pell. The scholarship does not mean tuition and living costs are fully free; keep your certification and every award notice.

To begin, identify the program administrator and the financial-aid office that certifies your enrollment. Review the program profile and requirements; for an individual account, also use the responsible state agency. Before accepting funds, compare the award letter with an itemized campus budget.

Bottom line

Use the Fall 2026 table and ask your campus to confirm your level; new amounts are based on 12 credits and are prorated.
