Where can you eat Breton galettes after visiting the Brittany Parliament in Rennes?

Two nearby crêperies let visitors choose between inventive galettes on rue du Chapitre and a smaller table on rue Saint-Georges.

The Brittany Parliament is not a museum into which visitors simply walk. The palace remains connected with the courts and Destination Rennes organises guided visits. Designed by Salomon de Brosse, it survived the city fire of 1720 but burned in 1994 before being restored. After seeing its ceilings and chambers, a buckwheat galette offers an everyday passage from monumental heritage to Breton food culture.

Crêperie La Saint-Georges, at 11 rue du Chapitre, proposes playfully named galettes with fillings beyond the classic combination. Rennes Tourism describes an extensive menu of dishes named after different Georges and a contemporary interior. Diners praise presentation, flavour and staff, though some describe a higher bill or difficulty walking in without a booking. Proximity to the Parliament is not enough: read the menu if your priority is a modest budget or a plain galette.

Crêperie La Gavotte Rennes stands at 41 rue Saint-Georges, on a street leading towards the Saint-Georges palace. It dates its activity to 1994 and offers galettes, crêpes and cider in a smaller room. Crisply cooked batter and the venue’s character earn praise; there are also accounts of slow or less welcoming service. A small restaurant may fill up after a guided visit, so a phone call and booking help more than a long list of ratings.

The calendar changes the answer. According to the tourism office, La Saint-Georges closes on Sunday and Monday; La Gavotte lists service on both days and a longer lunchtime period at weekends. A Parliament visit must be booked separately and is not self-guided. Do not count on a table immediately afterwards if the tour ends near kitchen closing time. Both restaurants are walkable from place du Parlement, but each shapes the afternoon differently.

Book the palace first, check when the tour will finish and then choose where to eat. La Saint-Georges makes the galette the creative centre of the meal; La Gavotte extends the old-centre walk with a more intimate table. If you have allergies, confirm ingredients and cross-contact: a buckwheat base alone does not certify an entire kitchen.

Bottom line

La Saint-Georges suits visitors after a more elaborate galette Tuesday to Saturday; smaller La Gavotte also opens on Sunday and Monday.
