Pärnu has two rhythms that meet in the late afternoon: the beach opening onto the gulf and the centre’s shopping streets leading towards the river. The city developed as a resort in 1838, when its first seaside bathing establishment opened; that legacy remains visible in the beach park, promenade and bath buildings of the 1920s. From the central beach, the city centre is about a 15-minute walk away. That distance makes it easy to walk back and choose dinner by the view you want to keep: boats and water by the river, or a more urban table among the central streets.
Jahtklubi Restoran is at Lootsi 6 beside the marina. Its main dining room seats 100, with additional spaces including a summer terrace; the official site also mentions a children’s play area. The menu is broad, and visitor accounts highlight the views, family-friendly atmosphere, welcoming staff and some fish and seafood choices. Other diners mention delays and particular dishes that did not work for everyone. The location does not mean sitting on the sand: think of it as a continuation of a river and marina walk.
In the centre, Gastronoom occupies a former Soviet-era grocery store at Hommiku 17. Its offer combines breakfast, European cooking, wine and cocktails; reviews mention tuna, duck, prawns, octopus salad and attentive service in a more intimate setting. It suits travellers who want to finish near the Red Tower and shopping streets, with the beach still within walking distance but not visible from the table. The website says the restaurant opens in the morning and closes on Sundays, a detail worth building into the plan.
The route leaves room to choose without rushing: walk along the sand, cross the beach park and follow Supeluse towards the centre; if you want to keep the maritime mood, continue to the river and marina. In summer, when Pärnu draws visitors, booking ahead reduces uncertainty. Jahtklubi is the more scenic and family-oriented option; Gastronoom is better for a longer dinner or early breakfast. Neither should be mistaken for a guarantee of local cuisine: menus and seasons change, so check the current selection if you are looking for a specific Estonian ingredient.
The final choice depends on how you want to end a resort-town day. A table beside the boats keeps the river in view; a room on Hommiku brings you back to the historic centre. In either case, walking is part of the plan, and Pärnu is best enjoyed when you leave time to notice its architecture as well as reach the beach.
Jahtklubi offers the marina and river; Gastronoom is an urban dinner in the centre. Choose by atmosphere and opening day.
