The Washington College Grant (WA Grant) is a state grant based mainly on household income and size. It is not limited to one university: it can support study at eligible Washington colleges and universities and certain approved apprenticeship programs. For a four-person household, the official 2026–27 table lists income up to $83,500 for the maximum award and partial eligibility up to $139,500; the final amount varies by institution, program, and approved cost.
For most students, FAFSA or WASFA is the entry point: the state uses the application to determine need and eligibility, and applicants should list an eligible institution. Official guidance calls for Washington residency, a high-school diploma or equivalent, no prior bachelor’s degree, satisfactory academic progress, and no outstanding state-aid refund obligation. The campus financial-aid office determines the amount shown in the award package.
It is important to distinguish this from College Bound: they are separate programs, although some students may qualify for both. WA Grant can reduce tuition and, depending on the pathway, support technical training or apprenticeships; do not budget it as automatic payment for books, rent, or transportation. Check your school’s award table, confirm that your specific program is approved, and submit FAFSA/WASFA early enough for the institution to process your file.
Before accepting aid, verify in writing who may apply, what costs it covers, whether it renews, and how it interacts with FAFSA and other scholarships. Confirm dates in the official portal and ask the college for your remaining net cost.
Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for an individual review before committing.
