The program trains workers for in-demand trades such as construction, HVAC, plumbing, energy, transportation, broadband, robotics, and some emergency services. VSAC administers it as tuition support for recognized certification programs, not as cash for personal expenses. It may cover tuition and initial licensing or exam fees, but excludes other fees, books, and supplies.
The current page sets a maximum of $23,000, limited to actual costs verified by the school. Applicants must show financial need and enroll in eligible nondegree training. Vermont residency is not required, though in-state programs receive preference; unemployed applicants must register with the Department of Labor. Funding is limited and awarded first come, first served.
For 2026–27, VSAC lists February 10, 2027 as the postmark deadline for the unified application and documents. Recipients sign an agreement to work full time in Vermont in their profession for at least one year per funded year after completing training and certification. Leaving the program, failing to earn the credential, or missing the service commitment may trigger repayment; read the agreement before accepting.
Request an individual review and net-cost statement before enrolling. Confirm residency, program, credits, funding, deadline, renewal, and excluded charges in writing; keep receipts and monitor the campus portal. The financial-aid office makes the final determination and can explain how this aid combines with FAFSA and other grants.
Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for a personal review of your balance.
