UNCF brings together its own scholarships and awards from companies, foundations, and other sponsors in an opportunities portal. Students create a profile and search by academic level, major, institution, and award criteria. For 2026–27, the portal has shown a general application open through March 31, 2027; each individual program may close earlier and require additional steps.
General does not mean every award has the same eligibility or that one form guarantees consideration for all of them. Some scholarships require attendance at an HBCU; others are restricted by major, state, GPA, need, employer, or academic year. Open each listing, verify that it is still accepting applications, and check essays, references, FAFSA, and documents individually.
Organize academic and enrollment records, financial information, activities, and references from the start; securely track logins, dates, and receipts. If an award requires FAFSA, file the correct cycle and handle verification with the college. UNCF’s search tool does not replace FAFSA or the campus financial-aid process.
The search tool may group opportunities with different sponsors and deadlines, so note who administers each award rather than assuming UNCF makes every decision. A listing may require an additional application elsewhere. Open links from the portal and verify that the destination matches the named sponsor.
Before applying, confirm that the school and program participate, check cycle requirements and dates, keep a copy and submission receipt, and ask how the award coordinates with FAFSA and other benefits. Do not budget funds that have not been awarded.
When comparing options, identify whether the benefit is a scholarship, grant, tuition exemption, or loan: not all aid must be repaid or applies to the same charges. Ask the college for a written estimate after FAFSA and other awards, check renewal and academic-progress rules, and do not accept a loan thinking it is a scholarship.
Read the program profile and the federal FAFSA guide; confirm with the administrator how the aid coordinates.
