Texas TEOG: aid for community colleges, state colleges, and technical institutes

TEOG is different from TEXAS Grant and TPEG; it serves students with financial need at eligible public two-year institutions.

The Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) helps Texas students with financial need who attend public community colleges, state colleges, or public two-year technical institutes. Do not confuse it with the TEXAS Grant, aimed at public universities, or the Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) covered in a separate guide.

General requirements include Texas residency as classified by the institution, financial need determined by the financial-aid office, at least half-time undergraduate enrollment, and no prior associate or bachelor’s degree. Initial awards generally include attempted-credit limits; renewal rules may differ. The school also checks academic progress and other legal requirements.

For 2026–27, THECB’s table sets different semester maximums by sector: $2,134 for public community colleges, $1,840 for public state colleges, and $3,896 for public technical institutes. These ceilings are not guaranteed checks: the offer depends on need, available funds, and institutional priority. The $6,478 SAI guides priority; it does not by itself establish eligibility.

File FAFSA or TASFA and request review from the campus financial-aid office. Confirm the school and program qualify, ask how attempted credits are counted, and check the local priority date. The institution determines the amount, reports it in your aid offer, and can explain disbursement delays.

The agency or institution determines final eligibility and the award under current-cycle rules and available funding. Read the program profile and the administering agency; ask the college for an individual review.
