Tennessee's geography makes distance a central part of a moving estimate. A move within Nashville, a cross-state trip from Knoxville or a route linking Memphis with Chattanooga involves different driving hours, crew availability and delivery coordination. A route's length alone does not determine whether it is intrastate: what matters is whether the shipment stays in Tennessee or crosses a state line.
The Tennessee Department of Revenue explains Intrastate Authority for for-hire carriers transporting people or property within the state. Its application process calls for an application, a designated agent for service of process and proof of insurance; for household-goods cargo, the page lists a Form H cargo certificate alongside Form E liability insurance. Before hiring, ask the company to identify the legal carrier, confirm the authority applicable to your route and provide its terms in writing. If the move crosses into another state, also check the federal FMCSA household-goods record.
Moretz Moving is based in Knoxville and advertises residential and commercial moves, packing and service across Tennessee, using 24-foot box trucks. Fox Moving & Storage lists locations or markets in Knoxville, Nashville, Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities, with residential and commercial moves, packing, storage and long-distance routes. Those markets do not promise pickup or delivery in every county: confirm both ends, who will transport the shipment and whether a crew or agent will change en route.
Positive comments reviewed for Moretz mention respectful service, punctuality, careful furniture handling and help arranging storage. Recent reviews visible for Fox Knoxville praise quick crews, communication and careful handling of belongings. These accounts describe specific moves rather than guaranteeing future performance; they can help you ask who supervises the crew, how furniture is protected and which contact handles a problem.
To compare estimates, prepare a shared inventory, photos of bulky pieces and details about stairs, lifts, parking and carrying distances. Request written rates, minimum hours, travel charges, packing, storage, dates, damage liability and claims procedure. Moretz advertises statewide service; Fox operates a Tennessee network and handles interstate routes. In either case, get explicit confirmation for the exact route and verify the applicable authority before paying a deposit or signing.
Moretz lists a phone number and contact form, while Fox lets customers start a free estimate request on its Knoxville page. Read the profiles of Moretz Moving in Knoxville and Fox Moving & Storage in Knoxville.
