SpouseWorks, formerly MyCAA: up to $4,000 for military-spouse training

This benefit funds training, licenses, or credentials for eligible military spouses; work with an advisor and do not assume it covers any bachelor’s degree.

SpouseWorks Scholarship is the current name of the benefit formerly known as MyCAA. It helps military spouses obtain employment-related credentials such as licenses, certifications, associate degrees, and certain continuing-education courses. It is not a general college fund for any degree, housing, or unrelated expenses.

Military OneSource says spouses of active-duty members and National Guard/Reserve components under qualifying Title 10 orders may apply. Eligibility is checked through an individual account and depends on orders, family status, and program type. Verify the sponsor’s current eligible service status before selecting a school.

Assistance may reach $4,000 total for approved training, subject to program caps and use periods. It is not unrestricted cash: payment is approved for courses and providers within an accepted education plan. Provider eligibility matters, so do not pay tuition expecting reimbursement for costs already incurred.

Register with SpouseWorks, verify eligibility, and identify an approved school or credential. Work with a career coach to create an Education and Training Plan; the official page recommends approval before committing funds. Call 800-342-9647 to connect with coaching, and keep the plan, authorization, and invoices.

The transition from MyCAA to SpouseWorks means old guides may remain online. Follow the current portal and obtain written preapproval for your plan. Read the program profile and the administering agency; ask your financial-aid office to review your individual case.

Treat the benefit as career-focused training support rather than an unrestricted tuition grant. The approved options include licenses, certifications, associate degrees, and certain continuing-education courses that help maintain professional credentials; confirm that your exact course and provider qualify before enrolling or paying. A SpouseWorks career coach can help connect the credential to a realistic employment plan, which matters when a family move may affect where you can work.
