The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation administers more than seventy scholarships for high-school graduates, GED holders, college students, and nontraditional learners in its area. The 2027–28 window opens December 15, 2026; the application is not yet available as of this guide. There is no single award amount because each competitive fund has its own purpose, sponsor, and criteria.
The foundation invites current college students and returning learners as well as graduating seniors. Its preparation page asks applicants to gather a transcript and recommendations: one from a teacher and another from an adult familiar with the applicant’s work, service, or circumstances, such as an employer, counselor, or mentor. Check each fund’s residency and academic-level rules when the portal opens.
A strong application does more than list activities: explain how planned studies connect to experience, goals, and community contributions. The foundation administers donor funds, so criteria are not interchangeable across scholarships. Students seeking need-based awards should complete FAFSA on time and keep the FAFSA Submission Summary if a fund requests it.
Before December 15, prepare recommendations and transcripts, but wait for the foundation to publish the final 2027–28 form and schedule. Submit from a personal account, confirm receipt, and keep copies. A scholarship does not replace an admission application or guarantee funding simply because someone lives in Sioux Falls; awards are competitive and governed by each fund’s rules.
Confirm the academic year, applicant group, local deadline and time, and documents others must submit. Keep copies and confirmations. Ask your school’s financial-aid office how the scholarship coordinates with FAFSA, grants, and other support.
Read the aid-program profile and the FAFSA guide; verify with the institution how funding is coordinated.
