The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation has published its next scholarship cycle for students pursuing college who demonstrate academic preparation, maturity, and resilience in the face of adversity. The 2027 application opens January 1 and closes March 1 at 4:59 p.m. The Foundation advises applicants to create an account and save the link provided so they can return to and submit the application.

Initial eligibility requires graduating from a high school in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, or DeSoto County and planning full-time study toward a four-year bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution; students already enrolled in college and those seeking only a two-year degree are not eligible. The Foundation requires exceptional financial need, at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA, transcripts, recommendations, essays, and an interview; meeting the screen does not guarantee selection.

The application requires a current official transcript, one recommendation letter, and the FAFSA Student Submission Summary showing the SAI code or number. A résumé is optional. If an applicant cannot complete FAFSA, the Foundation asks them to email its Scholarship Manager for instructions. Do not replace the FAFSA summary with an informal estimate or omit the requirement without speaking to the administrator.

The January-to-March window leaves time to prepare, but a created account does not make an application complete when documents are missing. Request the transcript early, arrange the recommendation, and download the FAFSA summary. To learn whether an award renews, which expenses it covers, and how it is credited, review the detailed rules and compare the offer with tuition and total cost of attendance.

Before applying, confirm eligibility, documents, the deadline, and time zone on the current-cycle page. Keep a copy of the form and receipts, and ask how the award coordinates with FAFSA, other scholarships, and the full cost of attendance.

Read the program profile and the federal FAFSA guide; confirm with the administrator how the funds coordinate.
