Unlike many local awards that wait until senior year, the San Antonio Area Foundation Legacy Scholarship begins taking applications while a student is a high-school junior. It serves students who live and attend school in Bexar or Webb County, demonstrate leadership and community involvement, and plan to attend a Texas college. The page lists an award of up to $10,000 per academic year for as many as four years; the full amount is not paid as a single lump sum.
For the annual cycle, the Foundation lists an October 1–December 15 application window; as of this review, the 2026 period had been announced. The file includes an online account, transcript, three short essays, and references, followed by an information session and college-success activities for selected students. The committee evaluates leadership and potential as well as academics; check the current guide before deciding who may write recommendations and which term’s grades must appear.
This is a competitive opportunity requiring recipients to attend a Texas college or university; it is separate from the 90-plus funds in the Foundation’s general EPIC application. Renewal depends on conditions in the individual award notice and continuation rules. Students outside the two counties or already in 12th grade should check the Foundation’s general portal and their school’s opportunities; because this award begins in junior year, waiting until the final semester can mean missing it.
Before accepting aid, verify in writing who may apply, what costs it covers, whether it renews, and how it interacts with FAFSA and other scholarships. Confirm dates in the official portal and ask the college for your remaining net cost.
Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for an individual review before committing.
