(Re)Engage Alabama was designed for adults who started college, interrupted their studies, and want to return through a degree pathway tied to the state’s high-demand occupations. It is not a general scholarship for every major or every student: an authorized institution reviews academic history, age, residency, the time away from school, completed credits, and the chosen program. Current rules cover adults age 22 or older who are Alabama residents and have been out of postsecondary education for at least 24 consecutive months.
Applicants must have completed at least 36 credits toward an associate degree or 72 toward a bachelor’s, depending on the pathway, remain in good academic standing, and enroll in at least six hours per term—or twelve for full-time—in an authorized program. The state list covers 129 CIP codes, but each participating institution offers its own set of approved degrees aligned with those codes. A listed occupation alone is not enough: confirm both the major and campus. The rules also address specific cases for students who earned an associate degree and later pursue their first bachelor’s after a break.
FAFSA is required, and the application goes to the college financial-aid office. The 2026–27 schedule has separate term dates: fall closed September 15, 2026; winter is due January 15, 2027; spring February 15; and summer June 15. These sources do not publish one uniform award amount that can be promised to every recipient: the program has limited funds, the school certifies applications, and availability may vary. Gather FAFSA, a credit history, and residency proof, then ask the campus to confirm the eligible major and amount in writing before counting on it for tuition.
Before accepting aid, compare net cost and uncovered charges. Confirm residency, program, credits, deadlines, renewal, and service obligations in writing with the responsible financial-aid office.
Read the official program profile and FAFSA guide; request an individual review before enrolling.
