Pennsylvania Student Teacher Support assists students completing the student-teaching placement required for certification. For 2026–27, PHEAA announced $10,000 stipends for eligible student teachers; this can reduce the strain of completing an unpaid placement, but it is not a general scholarship for every year of college. The program also provides up to $2,500 for cooperating teachers who mentor student teachers. Funding is limited.
Applicants must attend an institution located in Pennsylvania, be enrolled in a state-approved educator-preparation program, and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Their placement must be at an approved Pennsylvania school site; state guidance says the placement may be finalized after applying but must be in place by the placement deadline. Awards are made in the order complete applications are received, so starting an application is not the same as receiving approval.
The stipend is tied to a commitment to teach in Pennsylvania for three years after completing certification. Before accepting, review what the payment covers, how placement is documented, and what happens if your career plans change. The 2026–27 application opened in April 2026; the state directs applicants to PHEAA and warns that funding is limited. If your placement is in fall or spring, confirm that the term and institution fall within the program and keep a copy of the signed agreement.
Before accepting, compare the final balance with tuition, fees, and other aid; confirm the rules with the official source and ask the college financial-aid office for guidance.
Read the official program profile and FAFSA guide; request an individual review before enrolling.
