PA State Grant 2026–27: FAFSA, eligibility, and deadlines for Pennsylvania students

Pennsylvania’s state grant may provide up to $6,000 in 2026–27, subject to need, eligible enrollment, and a complete file. PHEAA sets different deadlines for first-time, renewal, and summer applicants.

The PA State Grant is need-based aid administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). For 2026–27, the agency lists a maximum of $6,000, but that ceiling is not a promise: the calculation considers financial information, study format, institution, and available funding. The grant reduces approved costs; it does not automatically pay for housing, meals, books, or transportation.

Start by filing the FAFSA for the academic year. If you have never received the grant, PHEAA may require additional items in GrantUs, its current portal for the State Grant and Ready to Succeed. Renewal students generally check for action items and keep their data current. PHEAA sets separate deadlines for first-time applicants, renewals, and summer, so a date in an older article may not apply to your category.

As of this guide’s date, part of the Fall 2026 cycle has passed. PHEAA says a late regular-year application may still be considered if funds remain, but this does not apply to the summer term. Submit only after checking the rule for your category, and do not include the grant in your budget until an award appears in the portal.

Compare your award notice with your campus cost of attendance: tuition, mandatory fees, books, transportation, and living costs are separate. Ask financial aid which charges the grant covers, when it posts, and how it coordinates with Pell or other scholarships. If you study part time, live out of state, or attend school outside Pennsylvania, read the relevant eligibility section before assuming you qualify.

To begin, identify the program administrator and the financial-aid office that certifies your enrollment. Review the program profile and requirements; for an individual account, also use the responsible state agency. Before accepting funds, compare the award letter with an itemized campus budget.

Information checked on October 12, 2026 against official sources. Eligibility does not guarantee an award: funding, deadlines, and college requirements can vary. Confirm the cycle, outstanding tasks, and net cost directly with the agency and your institution’s financial-aid office.

Bottom line

Check the correct applicant category and GrantUs: $6,000 is a maximum, and late consideration depends on available funding.
