Palm Beach County’s geography can make college selection a transportation decision as much as an academic one. Palm Beach State College has five campuses, from rural Belle Glade in the west to Boca Raton in the south, plus Lake Worth, Palm Beach Gardens, and Loxahatchee Groves. Founded in 1933 with 41 students as Florida’s first public community college, it now offers associate degrees, certificates, and bachelor’s programs. The right campus depends on the major, available classes, and how much time you can spend travelling.
Apply online, then complete orientation and submit official high-school and, where applicable, prior-college transcripts. Florida resident tuition classification requires separate documentation. Placement testing and additional program steps may follow. Selective majors—especially in health or public safety—can have their own applications and exams. Before paying, ask the department for a list of documents, dates, and prerequisites for your intended cohort.
The current rate for associate, vocational, and preparatory credit programs is $101 per credit for Florida residents and $363 for out-of-state students. At 12 credits, that is $1,212 or $4,356 per term. Bachelor’s programs have a separate rate: $122.85 per credit for residents and $558 for nonresidents, or $1,474.20 and $6,696 for 12 credits. These examples exclude possible lab, materials, online-delivery, registration, and parking charges; they are not a full estimate of the cost of living and studying for a term.
Programs also have different timelines. An Associate in Arts commonly follows a 60-credit plan and may take two years full-time when a student follows the sequence; preparatory English or math, work, unavailable classes, and program changes can make it longer. A career certificate may take less time or include supervised practice, while a bachelor’s requires more credits and a separate path. The catalog and an academic adviser can turn a credential goal into a term-by-term schedule.
Students who arrive with limited English can ask about English for Academic Purposes (EAP) through PBSC’s College Readiness program. Accuplacer ESL determines placement, and the college lists three levels covering reading, grammar, speaking, and listening through classes and lab work. The Student Learning Center adds in-person and online tutoring. EAP is not a promise that every student can start any major immediately: assigned language courses and general prerequisites may come before college composition or entry into a limited-access program.
Financial aid can change the equation. PBSC says most scholarships require admission to a degree- or certificate-seeking program, at least a 2.0 GPA, and FAFSA, although each fund sets its own terms. Awards target graduating seniors, honors students, athletes, specific fields, and other circumstances. The college foundation groups more than 200 scholarships into one application; its main cycle is listed from May 1 through August 1 for the coming academic year, and spring or summer rounds may open if funds remain. Deadlines change by cycle, so a past application window does not reopen automatically.
Each campus has a distinct role. Belle Glade brings college and testing services to the agricultural west. Boca Raton sits beside Florida Atlantic University, a geographic advantage for exploring transfer even though agreements must be checked by major. Historic Lake Worth is the largest site and combines student services, a library, tutoring, arts, and athletics. Loxahatchee Groves opened in 2017 to serve the western county, while Palm Beach Gardens serves the north with associate degrees and certificates. Do not assume every major is taught at every site; the class search can verify each term.
Before enrolling, compare resident and nonresident costs rather than looking only at a per-credit price; ask which courses meet at your campus, where practicums happen, whether previous credits transfer, and which scholarships are still accepting applications. Begin with the admission application, check tuition and scholarships, and review EAP and college readiness. Each campus profile includes its address and directions link so a visit to Admissions or the Student Learning Center starts at the right location.
