Oklahoma’s Promise is a state program that lets eligible students apply while in high school and use a scholarship after entering postsecondary education. Enrollment is not automatic at graduation: the student must submit a family-verified application and later meet school, academic, and income rules before payment begins. The award is directed toward tuition at participating Oklahoma institutions; it should not be treated as general funding for housing, transportation, or living costs.
The standard route is for Oklahoma residents in grades 8 through 12 who apply before high-school graduation; home-schooled students must apply before turning 18. For students in grade 12 during the 2026–27 school year, the official deadline is December 31, 2026. Earlier grades have earlier recommended dates, and every application must arrive before the student’s official graduation.
Under the traditional path, parental adjusted gross income for the most recent tax year must not exceed $60,000 for households with one or two dependents, $70,000 with three or four, or $80,000 with five or more. The site also describes special rules for children of certified public-school teachers with at least ten years of service, certain adoptions, and court-appointed guardianship. These exceptions require records and should not be assumed without checking the relevant guidance.
Initial enrollment does not end the financial review. The program applies income limits when the student starts college and before scholarship payments; the current page lists a general $100,000 limit at those points, with a separate rule for the teacher track. Each cycle may require income verification and other records, so families should keep tax documents, residency evidence, parental consent, and program notices.
To retain the scholarship, students must complete the required high-school curriculum, earn the required grade-point average, meet conduct and attendance standards, and file FAFSA when required. The program lists institution-specific payment rules, and not every cost-of-attendance charge qualifies. Review the required-course list and scholarship conditions before dropping classes, transferring, or changing institutions, since those decisions can affect eligibility.
The application link on OKPromise leads to OKcollegestart, the state’s college-planning platform. Families should confirm that the form is complete, the appropriate adult has signed, and required records have been received; a saved screen is not necessarily confirmed enrollment. If the 2026 deadline has passed, check the account with the administrator rather than assuming a late application will be accepted.
Before applying, confirm the current cycle, priority date, participating institution, enrollment load, and any missing records. Keep a copy of the FAFSA or state form, transcripts, and submission confirmation. Ask about renewal, covered expenses, and coordination with other aid. Do not budget money until you receive an official award.
Compare net cost and distinguish scholarships, grants, waivers, and loans; they are not all repaid or applied to the same charges. Verify current-cycle dates and requirements directly with the administrator.
Read the program profile and federal FAFSA guide; confirm with the administrator how the aid coordinates.
