The organization says Oakland public-school students may receive $100 deposits in kindergarten and certain later grades—5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th—in a Promise Scholarship account, with possible additional funding in 12th grade. Families must activate the account and follow usage rules; eligible students may also have a CalKIDS balance, a separate state program.
The senior scholarship has its own portal, calendar, and cohort criteria. The official portal lists the Class of 2026 application opening October 6, 2025 and closing March 6, 2026; as of this guide’s date, it has not posted Class of 2027 dates. Do not project amounts or requirements from old files. The organization lists scholarships, one-to-one coaching, mentoring, workshops, and peer support, but the actual offer depends on the award and cohort.
If you attend school in Oakland, check whether your public-district or charter school is eligible, activate any early account, and keep your school SSID to check CalKIDS. For the senior scholarship, create a portal account when the next cycle appears and prepare FAFSA/CADAA, admissions, and essays only according to current instructions. If you missed 2026, ask whether a partner scholarship is available; do not pay intermediaries or share credentials outside the institutional portal.
Do not compare programs by the phrase “free tuition” alone. Ask the college for a written budget separating tuition, mandatory fees, books, transportation, housing, and meals, and ask which other grants are deducted before this award is calculated. A last-dollar scholarship may cover only eligible charges left after Pell and institutional aid.
