This scholarship serves North Carolina residents enrolled at eligible private institutions in the state. It is distinct from community-college aid, and not every private college participates. CFNC says awards depend on need, enrollment, and funds; students receive variable amounts and should compare them with their campus package.

Published criteria include undergraduate study, no prior bachelor’s degree, at least six credits, and state residency. The current guide lists a Student Aid Index of 15,000 or lower as a need guideline. Applicants must attend a participating campus and meet its dates; filing FAFSA alone does not guarantee an award, especially when funds are exhausted.

Consideration uses FAFSA information delivered to the institution and the campus priority date. File early and confirm financial aid received your SAI and any verification documents. Request a net estimate and ask about renewal and academic progress. Do not reuse deadlines from a prior year; each college announces the dates for its cohort.

Request an individual review and net-cost statement before enrolling. Confirm residency, program, credits, funding, deadline, renewal, and excluded charges in writing; keep receipts and monitor the campus portal. The financial-aid office makes the final determination and can explain how this aid combines with FAFSA and other grants.

Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for a personal review of your balance.

Tuition assistance does not necessarily cover housing, meals, transportation, books, or equipment.

Bottom line

Compare net cost and excluded charges before committing; financial aid confirms eligibility and your balance.
