The M.J. Foster Promise funds credentials tied to high-demand jobs in construction, health care, information technology, manufacturing, and transportation/logistics. It serves Louisiana adults pursuing a short-term certificate or associate degree at a public two-year college or approved provider. The aid works as last-dollar funding and may cover eligible costs after other assistance; limits and duration depend on the program and current cycle, so confirm the exact award in the portal.
The current page requires applicants to be at least 21 when completing the application, have been Louisiana residents for at least 24 months, hold a high-school diploma or equivalent, and have no associate or higher degree. FAFSA is also required for the enrollment year in Title IV programs, along with a program application. Students must meet the published income or employment test and enroll in an approved program; not every available certificate qualifies.
Funding carries continuation responsibilities: official rules require an annual career-related activity such as community service, an internship, apprenticeship, or mentorship, and a commitment to live and work full time in Louisiana for one year after completion. Additional GPA, conduct, and repayment conditions may apply. Before accepting, read the program agreement and ask the college for a breakdown of covered costs, remaining balance, and renewal steps.
Before accepting aid, verify in writing who may apply, what costs it covers, whether it renews, and how it interacts with FAFSA and other scholarships. Confirm dates in the official portal and ask the college for your remaining net cost.
Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for an individual review before committing.
