The Hanover Welcome Center has separate seasonal hours. Consult the forest map for the chosen route. Dogs must be leashed outside Overton Bark, and motorized vehicles are prohibited in the Old Forest. A roughly half-mile loop was announced to open November 13, 2025; use the current map rather than an older assumption about restricted land.

Shelby Farms needs a choice of area before a choice of activity
Shelby Farms Park covers 4,500 acres, with lakes, trails and recreation areas. Its homepage publishes opening and closing times by date, while the Greenline runs sunrise–sunset. Woodland Discovery Playground opens at 9 a.m. and closes one hour before sunset; its rules identify ages 2–12, adult supervision and no pets. The visitor center at 6903 Great View Drive North is a useful reference, but not the entrance for every activity.
Current notices matter here. The operator says the Outback lake algae advisory has been downgraded to precautionary, and identifies fence replacement September 28, 2026, along Mullins Station Road between Gates 11 and 12. Neither notice means the whole park is closed or that all water is suitable for contact. General rules prohibit swimming or wading and approaching or feeding animals, including bison; organized activities have separate conditions.
