Las Vegas and Clark County: how to find meals and in-home support for older adults

ADSD receives state applications, Clark County assesses in-home support, and Catholic Charities delivers meals to homebound residents.

Las Vegas sits within Clark County, a jurisdiction that includes multiple cities and unincorporated communities. That geography matters: Nevada’s state office handles certain long-term-support applications, the county coordinates care based on need and income, and a nonprofit delivers meals only within a defined area. The useful first details are the ZIP code and the kind of help needed now.

For state long-term-support applications, the Aging and Disability Services Division has an Office of Community Living location at 7150 Pollock Drive. Call (702) 486-3545. Programs such as COPE, Personal Assistance Services, and HCBS waivers require health and financial documentation; rules and eligibility decision-makers vary by program. The office can explain the process but does not guarantee an immediate assignment of service hours.

If the need is help with bathing, dressing, laundry, simple meals, shopping, or prescription pickup, Clark County Social Service’s Adult Care Unit assesses the Homemaker Home Health Aide program and other care options. Call 702-455-4270 or visit the office at 1600 Pinto Lane. Published rules include Clark County residency, a medical need, income and asset limits, and lack of an equivalent service through insurance or another program. Contracted agencies deliver the in-home support.

For weekly meals at no cost, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada offers Meals on Wheels to homebound residents age 60 and older who live year-round in Las Vegas or North Las Vegas. It delivers seven frozen meals each week and makes a check-in visit; donated pet food may also be available on request. Call 702-385-5284 and start through the referral form or a professional referral.

The programs do not share a single application. Long-term care may require a clinical assessment and financial review; the county has its own referral form, while meal delivery checks age, address, and homebound status. On each call, ask who can submit a referral, which medical and income records are needed, whether insurance already covers a task, and how long a response may take. Do not send sensitive paperwork through a link until you confirm it is official.

If the person has just left a hospital, tell the county the discharge date and ask about Alternative Health Care, which is intended to support the transition home. If food is the immediate concern, start with Catholic Charities; if the right program is still unclear, Nevada Care Connection can help compare resources. Profile addresses lead to listed offices, not necessarily to the place where care is delivered.
