Eligibility combines residence and school history: live within Lansing School District boundaries, attend a school inside those boundaries continuously from grades 9–12, and graduate there. The page also addresses homeschool, GED, and certain approved virtual-school students, although those paths and graduates from 2024 or earlier must complete a separate application. Living in the City of Lansing is not enough if the address is outside the school district.
The scholarship may be used at participating postsecondary institutions or approved skilled-trade programs. The page does not list one universal dollar award, so students need to check the institution and the balance remaining after other aid. It requires annual FAFSA completion and therefore does not replace federal aid or a college’s admission application.
Eligible seniors receive an email, generally with a link to the acceptance form. To receive the award, they must submit that acceptance, complete FAFSA, and apply and be admitted to a Promise institution or approved trade program. GED, homeschool, virtual programs, and older graduating classes use a separate online route; check that your school is listed before sending documents.
Do not send only proof of address: keep school records covering all four years, your diploma, FAFSA, and program emails. The site lists exceptions for certain school paths, but full rules may differ by graduation year. Ask the program to confirm your partner college, available amount, covered fees, and completed annual requirements in writing before assuming a semester is paid.
Before relying on the scholarship, use the school district’s official boundary map to verify your address, not just your ZIP code. Ask your high school to confirm your four-year record and eligible-school name in writing; homeschool, GED, and virtual students should follow the separate application path. File FAFSA each year and ask the partner college which charges Promise covers and whether a per-term cap applies.
Read the aid-program profile and official FAFSA guide; ask the college for an individual balance review.
