The Kibbie Grant, also called the Iowa Skilled Workforce Shortage Tuition Grant, serves residents pursuing technical training at an Iowa community college. Students must enroll in at least three credits in an approved program lasting 15 weeks or more. The program must appear on the state list; a course’s technical nature alone does not make it eligible.

For 2026–27, Iowa requires FAFSA-based need and a Student Aid Index from -1,500 to 6,000. The published annual maximum is $3,100, though awards may be lower based on funding and recipients; part-time students may receive prorated amounts. Aid can last up to two years and is limited to eligible expenses, so fees, tools, uniforms, and transportation need separate budgeting.

The 2026–27 FAFSA deadline was July 1, 2026 and has passed. If you filed, contact the college to review your SAI, credits, and remaining funds before paying. If not, ask which campus aid is still open and when the next cycle will be published. Do not assume late applications will be accepted after state funds have been allocated.

Request an individual review and net-cost statement before enrolling. Confirm residency, program, credits, funding, deadline, renewal, and excluded charges in writing; keep receipts and monitor the campus portal. The financial-aid office makes the final determination and can explain how this aid combines with FAFSA and other grants.

Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for a personal review of your balance.
