This pathway is designed for Idaho residents who paused their education and want to return to college. The official page requires Idaho high-school, homeschool, or GED/HSE completion, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, and a return at six or more credits after a break of at least 24 months. It is not the same pathway as Idaho’s regular Opportunity Scholarship for recent graduates: prior college history and time away matter.
The award may reach $3,500 per academic year and renew for up to four years, subject to funding, satisfactory progress, and enrollment at an approved school. Applicants must pursue a certificate, first associate degree, or first bachelor’s degree; it does not fund graduate study or a second bachelor’s. Specific screening rules include at least 24 college credits earned before stopping and no more than two classes in the most recent 24 months.
FAFSA is due by term: December 1 for spring, April 15 for summer, and July 1 for fall, according to the current page. Apply and complete the graduation plan through Scholarship Idaho; recipients must confirm renewal by March 1 and maintain a 2.7 GPA while receiving the award. Before registering, ask the institution to review your transcript and confirm that your time away meets the 24-month rule.
Before accepting aid, verify in writing who may apply, what costs it covers, whether it renews, and how it interacts with FAFSA and other scholarships. Confirm dates in the official portal and ask the college for your remaining net cost.
Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for an individual review before committing.
