A move within Illinois is regulated by the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC). The commission says a company transporting household goods for hire needs a Household Goods license and must publish and file a tariff listing its services and prices. A truck’s USDOT number alone is not enough to confirm state authority. The ICC directory lets consumers search the entity and review its records; if a contract includes furniture storage, also check whether a separate warehouse license is required.
A written estimate should describe what is moving and which services add to transportation: packing, cartons, disassembly, stairs, travel time, storage and protection against loss or damage. The ICC advises consumers to confirm that the estimate uses the appropriate form and to understand what may change the total. Its consumer guide explains that when charges exceed the written estimate, the customer may pay up to 110% to receive the goods and defer the excess for 30 days, under the conditions described by the commission. Keep the contract, inventory and receipts together.
H2H Movers is based in Chicago and lists residential, commercial, government, local, intrastate and long-distance moves. Its services include full or partial packing, loading and unloading, piano moves, furniture rearrangement and building insurance certificates. The ICC entity profile identifies H2H Movers Inc, license 184599, with permanent Household Goods authority and an address at 4250 N Marine Drive. Berna Moving & Storage operates from South Elgin; its website describes local, statewide, national, commercial and senior moves, plus packing, custom crates and climate-controlled storage. Berna publishes IL CC 5366 MC-C and is an agent of National Van Lines, but its current status should be checked in the state register before signing.
Favorable comments on H2H’s exact Chicago Google Maps listing commonly mention communication, speed, careful wrapping and crew attention. At Berna’s listing, public opinions describe positive experiences with courteous crews and help on household and office moves. A favorable review does not replace a license, and one account cannot predict another move. For Berna, checking current ICC status is especially important because the company website publishes an identifier but does not replace the current state search result.
When comparing Chicago with another city in Illinois, request pricing for the same inventory and route. Ask whether the estimate is binding, which ICC-filed tariff applies, what storage costs and which protection covers each item. Ask who performs the work if a national van-line partner is involved and how long you have to file a claim. For interstate routes, separately verify the federal registration of the company actually transporting the shipment.
H2H offers a free estimate starting with ZIP codes; Berna has a form to request a moving estimate. Compare the total and inclusions, not just an opening rate. The clearest decision combines verified current authority, documented service for that pair of cities and written terms before the furniture is loaded.

Google ratings and review counts are stored as metadata and are not repeated in narrative profiles.
In Illinois, verify the Household Goods license, filed tariff and legal entity taking the shipment. The ICC provides the definitive check; a license number on a company website should be compared with the current state record.
