How do I register children for public school in the Las Vegas, Nevada area?

A family moving to the Las Vegas area should confirm the child's zoned school and registration requirements before relying on a school name in a housing advertisement. Clark County School District publishes the process for the current 2026–2027 year, including a route for families sharing housing. Completing that process is different from applying for a seat through an optional school-choice program.

Find the zoned school with the actual address

CCSD's registration page links its school search, and the district's back-to-school guide identifies Demographics, Zoning and GIS assistance at 702-799-6430. Use the complete residential address. Geographic proximity alone does not show which school is assigned, and a recommendation from a landlord should be checked against the district's own result.

Families register every school year, including those whose children already attend CCSD. Existing families use their Campus Parent account to re-register or add a child. New families, and those returning after leaving the district, use the new-registration route. The online system is available in English and Spanish. After submitting it, new or returning families provide the required documents to the zoned school; the online form is not the entire enrollment process.

Prepare identity and residency evidence for the child

CCSD requires parent or guardian identification, proof of the child's identity, immunization documentation and address evidence. Its accepted child-identity options include an original birth certificate, passport or certified birth card from a health district. Photocopies are not accepted for that identity requirement. A guardian should also be prepared to establish guardianship where applicable.

The current back-to-school guide asks for one address proof and lists a recent utility bill, current mortgage statement, rent receipt, residential lease or sales contract. Telephone and cable bills are excluded from its utility-bill option. Families sharing housing who lack a lease, mortgage or utility bill in the parent or guardian's name can select Shared Housing in registration and receive instructions for the necessary paperwork. The normal kindergarten entry rule requires a fifth birthday on or before August 1. Transfers and other grade-placement circumstances require the district's specific review; do not assume a birthday rule from another state automatically applies. CCSD publishes current immunization guidance for 2026–2027, including conditional and exemption provisions. Bring the actual records and ask the school what remains to be completed for the student.

Separate current enrollment from the next choice cycle

The official Open Enrollment page says applications for 2026–2027 are closed. Applications for 2027–2028 open October 5, 2026. This program allows applications to schools with available spaces; it is different from Magnet selection and from registering at the zoned school. Where applications exceed space, the district describes a lottery, so applying is not a guaranteed place.

Ask the school for its registration dates and hours instead of assuming all school offices have the same public schedule. Once registration is settled, confirm travel and emergency-contact arrangements; those details are among the reasons CCSD requires families to update information annually.
