Georgia HOPE Scholarship: GPA, tuition, and renewal requirements

Georgia HOPE pays toward tuition at eligible public institutions; GSFC’s GPA calculation and academic checkpoints are central to eligibility.

Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship is merit aid toward undergraduate tuition at eligible state institutions. GSFC administers the program, and its HOPE GPA can differ from the cumulative GPA on your transcript because the commission calculates specified core courses.

For a high-school entry pathway, the published general standard is a 3.0 HOPE GPA in core courses; residency and eligible graduation rules also apply, along with FAFSA or GSFAPP as appropriate. College students may earn eligibility at checkpoints and can lose it below the standard. Confirm institution, combined hours, and paid-hour limits.

At public colleges, HOPE is calculated per credit up to 15 per term using an institution-specific rate or factor; GSFC’s 2026–27 chart is the source to check. Private colleges use a separate fixed schedule. It is tuition assistance, not a housing or textbook check, and the package can vary by campus and credits.

Complete the FAFSA or GSFAPP and check your status in GAfutures. GSFC checks HOPE GPA at checkpoints such as spring term and specified attempted-hour levels; at least 3.0 is required at those checks to retain the scholarship. Zell Miller has higher standards and is a separate award. Before transferring, ask the new campus to review hours and eligibility.

Before accepting an aid package, compare your individual notice with the bill and ask what happens if you change enrollment, major, or campus. Read the program profile and consult the administering agency; your institution’s financial-aid office confirms your individual determination.

Information checked on October 12, 2026 against official sources. Deadlines for the 2026–27 cycle have passed for several programs; they are identified as past dates where relevant. Eligibility does not guarantee funding: confirm the academic year, your file, and net cost with the program and your campus financial-aid office.

Bottom line

Check the 2026–27 chart by institution: Georgia does not use one tuition amount for every campus.
