Florida Student Assistance Grant: financial need and how to apply

FSAG is need-based aid for Florida college students; FAFSA and each school’s deadline are essential. For 2026–27, the state lists a maximum calculated SAI of 9,984 in several sectors.

The Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG) is a family of need-based grants for undergraduates at participating institutions, including public, private, and postsecondary/career-education sectors. Florida does not set one student application date for every school; the campus sets its deadline and processes FAFSA. For 2026–27, OSFA reported a calculated maximum SAI of 9,984 for public, private, and postsecondary sectors, subject to program rules and appropriations.

General eligibility may include Florida residency, citizenship or eligible immigration status, demonstrated need, undergraduate enrollment, and an approved program. Sector requirements are not identical. The state aid portal says students create an account and profile and, for FSAG, contact their postsecondary institution directly. The FFAA serves other state programs, so do not assume it is the right FSAG application.

The final amount is determined institutionally based on need, budget, sector, and credit load. The cycle memo allocates funds to institutions and notes that distribution depends on the approved state budget. Therefore, the SAI figure is not an automatic income ceiling or a promised award. Ask for the priority deadline, minimum credits, and how the campus reports your eligibility status.

Complete FAFSA accurately as early as possible, submit verification documents, and follow your college portal. Request an award notice showing which charges FSAG could cover and compare it with Pell, Bright Futures, and other grants. If you already study in Florida, confirm whether changing schools affects the award and whether your sector is public, private, or career education; amount and renewal may depend on that classification.

To begin, identify the program administrator and the financial-aid office that certifies your enrollment. Review the program profile and requirements; for an individual account, also use the responsible state agency. Before accepting funds, compare the award letter with an itemized campus budget.

Information checked on October 12, 2026 against official sources. Eligibility does not guarantee an award: funding, deadlines, and college requirements can vary. Confirm the cycle, outstanding tasks, and net cost directly with the agency and your institution’s financial-aid office.

Bottom line

For FSAG, start with FAFSA and campus financial aid: that office sets the student deadline, sector review, and amount Florida does not standardize.
