Dallas College Promise is a last-dollar scholarship: it covers eligible tuition remaining after certain federal and state grants rather than paying a general cash amount to the student. For graduates of Dallas County Promise partner high schools, the program may cover up to three years or completion of an associate degree; certain bachelor’s programs taught at Dallas College, including education, nursing, and applied technology, may extend coverage to five years or degree completion. The portal also lists textbooks and student support.

Eligibility begins with an affiliated high school and the transition to college the fall after graduation. For the class of 2026, the page required a Promise Path Form, admission, and FAFSA or TASFA, with financial need determined through that application. Those dates have passed, but the institutional calendar lists a July 1, 2027 deadline for Dallas Promise 2027–28. Before planning, confirm the next cycle keeps the same steps and that the student’s high school participates.

Because it is last-dollar, Pell Grant, TEOG, TPEG, and other aid may cover part of the cost first. The scholarship pays eligible tuition remaining; it should not be understood as a promise of free housing or a cash deposit. Dallas College also lists a success coach, case manager, and access to resources such as childcare, mental-health support, food, housing, DART transit, and tutoring. Ask the college for a written estimate separating tuition, fees, books, and excluded costs.

Before submitting anything, confirm eligibility and that the application window is open on the official source. Gather transcripts, FAFSA or other financial-aid forms when required, essays, and recommendations; keep a copy and submission receipt. Track the application deadline separately from supporting-document deadlines. Monitor the portal and email until the file is complete. Ask financial aid how an award coordinates with other scholarships, and do not budget funds that have not been awarded.

When comparing options, distinguish scholarships, grants, waivers, and loans: they are not all repaid or applied to the same charges. Ask for an estimate of the balance after FAFSA and other aid, and review renewal rules before relying on funding.

Read the program profile and the federal FAFSA guide; confirm with the administrator how the aid coordinates.

Bottom line

Confirm current eligibility and application steps with the official source before relying on the aid for college costs.
