The College Opportunity Fund is not money deposited into a student’s bank account. Colorado administers it as a per-credit stipend that reduces the tuition charged to eligible residents at participating institutions. Students must apply for COF and authorize it through the college system. Without authorization, the student may be charged the full rate.
Eligibility is limited to Colorado residents pursuing undergraduate study at a participating institution. The program has a lifetime credit limit and separate rules for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree; check your balance before transferring or changing programs. COF covers a defined tuition component, not necessarily fees, housing, meals, books, or other charges. The per-credit amount depends on current budget rules.
Apply for COF and authorize the stipend before the billing deadline; do not assume it will appear automatically. Review your account after registering and compare the bill with and without the credit. If you take summer or concurrent courses or change institutions, ask how those credits count toward the lifetime limit.
Request an individual review and net-cost statement before enrolling. Confirm residency, program, credits, funding, deadline, renewal, and excluded charges in writing; keep receipts and monitor the campus portal. The financial-aid office makes the final determination and can explain how this aid combines with FAFSA and other grants.
Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for a personal review of your balance.
