Azusa, California’s Academic Scholarship Program is not limited to students finishing high school: it also has an Adult Advancement track for residents returning to study or moving forward in a career. The City closed the 2026 cycle and says the 2027 programme will open in early 2027. For now, the City page is a preparation guide, not an open 2027 application.
The current webpage describes two opportunities: two awards for graduating seniors—$2,000 for first place and $1,000 for second—and two equivalent Adult Advancement awards. Eligible schools include accredited colleges, universities, or trade schools. Funds go directly to the institution after the recipient proves registration; they are not unrestricted cash. The final amount depends on the current rules and should not be treated as automatic.
There is a conflict within the City’s own materials. The current webpage lists four awards of $2,000 and $1,000 across the two categories, while the programme-description PDF says applicants may receive “up to $1,500” and then immediately lists the $2,000 and $1,000 awards. The posted information does not reconcile the difference. Before budgeting or applying, ask Neighborhood Services which amount will apply in 2027 and wait for the page and form to be updated.
For the high-school track, the PDF requires at least one year of Azusa residency, senior status, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, leadership or school/community involvement, admission to an accredited institution, and financial need. The adult track requires age 19 or older, one year of residency, community involvement, admission, and financial need. The version reviewed does not set an adult GPA minimum; confirm the new form for any additional requirement.
The PDF describes a complete application, one recommendation letter, official transcript, and personal statement. Recipients must later provide proof of admission, registration, and their most recent tax return showing adjusted gross income; pay stubs alone are not enough. It also requires two proofs of residence dated one year before the application deadline, in the applicant’s name or a parent’s name if the student is a dependent. Failure to provide required verification can forfeit the award.
Selection considers academic record, extracurricular or community involvement, a one-page essay, financial need, and an optional interview. A City committee reviews and ranks applications; meeting the criteria does not guarantee an award. The City allows online submission or delivery by mail or in person at City Hall. The programme may change, be postponed, or be cancelled under the published terms, so review the 2027 notice rather than reusing 2026 materials.
Questions go to Neighborhood Services: Taleen Nazarian, 626-633-4314, or neighborhoodservices@azusaca.gov. The City lists City Hall at 213 E Foothill Blvd., Azusa, CA 91702. The Azusa scholarship profile distinguishes the current webpage from the PDF rules; the Neighborhood Services profile identifies where to verify the next award amount and documents.
When the 2027 cycle opens, recheck opening and deadline dates, number of awards, exact amounts, and any changes to age, GPA, or tax documentation. Do not reuse an old form or send tax returns through a social-media link; start from the City website. If tuition is due before a local decision, also file FAFSA or CADAA, seek campus awards, and ask about payment plans with compatible deadlines.
