Arkansas Academic Challenge is a state scholarship funded by lottery revenue and administered by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education. It helps students pursuing a degree or eligible pathway at a participating institution. An award may combine a base tied to the student’s year of study with additional funding based on need and SAI, so a table amount does not necessarily match an individual offer. For 2026–27, the ACCESS law introduces phased changes; identify your cohort and current rules before relying on older figures.
The official SAMS portal publishes criteria, renewal, and base awards; the agency says ACCESS broadens eligibility to new graduates who meet the Diploma of Merit or academic pathway, with implementation beginning in 2026–27. The FAFSA must be completed for the campus to process aid and, under the current structure, SAI can affect supplemental funding. This is not a universal state grant: residency, diploma, credits, progress, and program must fit the rule for your cohort.
Apply through SAMS, list the institution, and complete any documents requested by the portal or the financial-aid office. Awards can change with the ACCESS rollout, available state funds, and enrollment; the program may require minimum credits and GPA for renewal. In October 2026, ask the college for a written estimate and which ACCESS rule applies to your graduating class, which amount is provisional, and what internal deadline the campus uses. If you are pursuing short workforce training, compare this program with Arkansas Workforce Challenge; they are not interchangeable.
Before accepting aid, compare the net balance with tuition, fees, and other costs; confirm requirements and deadlines with the official source and ask the college financial-aid office for guidance.
Read the official program profile and FAFSA guide; request an individual review before enrolling.
