Maskay guide

Which states does Argentina's Houston consulate serve, and how are passports, DNI cards and visas handled?

Houston is Argentina's consular post for six south-central states. This guide explains its jurisdiction, document appointments, visa rules and timelines to consider before travelling.

Argentina's Consulate General in Houston has jurisdiction over Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma and Louisiana. If you live in another state, the official district list assigns your enquiry to a different office, even if an occasional mobile session is announced nearby. Confirming jurisdiction prevents preparing documents for an office that does not serve your registered residence.

The permanent office is at 2200 West Loop South, Suite 1025, Houston, Texas 77027. The consulate lists in-person service Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a consultation phone line with a broader time window. Email addresses are separated for passports and DNI cards, visas, nationality, powers of attorney, certificates and general matters; the emergency number is for serious incidents and does not replace these channels.

For passports and DNI cards, the page updated September 24, 2026 directs applicants to Argentina's National Appointment System. Available dates may be booked within 60 days of accessing the system; the page also warns that new documents reach Houston no sooner than 60 days after the application is taken. That period refers to arrival at the consulate, not necessarily the exact day each applicant will receive a document: the portal sends a notice when it is ready and explains how to track the file using the receipt identifier.

Delivery is in person at the office during public hours. In specified circumstances, the consulate accepts postal delivery with a prepaid USPS or UPS envelope and signed authorisation submitted when the application is made; FedEx is excluded by the page. Anyone planning to use this option should prepare the correct label from the start and confirm the current instructions rather than sending an envelope later without prior authorisation.

Visas follow a separate process. The consulate asks applicants to email the visa section with their identity, nationality, passport type, category and tentative travel date. Interviews are required by appointment on business days. Official information distinguishes Argentine tourist visas from other categories, lists electronic alternatives for some profiles and warns that paying an application fee does not guarantee approval. People with near-term travel should check timing before buying non-refundable tickets.

Houston also handles powers of attorney, travel permissions for minors, nationality by option, certificates, civil registrations and legalisations. A power, for example, may begin with a draft prepared by an Argentine notary and then requires an in-person signature appointment. A minor's travel authorisation depends on age, parentage and the situation of the adults granting permission. Requirements for one procedure should not be applied to another.

Visible comments on the exact Maps listing include positive accounts of courteous, efficient service as well as less favourable individual experiences. This summary does not turn any one account into a general rule; the guide prioritises verifiable steps and directs readers to the right email for each case. The office profile brings together location, contacts and review context without repeating rating figures.

Houston serves a large region, and several procedures require attendance or advance coordination. See the Consulate General of Argentina in Houston profile for the address, phone and hours before planning the trip.

Bottom line

Houston serves six states and sets separate rules for each service. DNI and passport appointments use the national system, and the portal warns that production and delivery take at least two months; visa applications begin by email and require a scheduled interview. Check available dates, requirements, public hours and delivery options before travelling, especially from another state.
