To determine whether New York is the right office, start with the published district: Argentina’s Consulate General serves New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont. That makes Midtown the reference point for much of the Northeast, but residence must fall within the district and each service has its own requirements.
The official address is 12 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019. The main phone number is +1 212 603 0400. In-person service is listed Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; general phone assistance is listed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sections page expressly says visitors are admitted by appointment only and asks them to attend without companions for security reasons.
The online appointment system currently offers procedures involving RENAPER: DNI cards, ordinary passports and remote life certificates. The site recommends checking availability because dates may appear after cancellations. Collecting an issued DNI card or passport follows a separate instruction from booking the original appointment. The system covers specific procedures, not every consular inquiry.
New York’s catalogue also includes emergency or provisional passports, powers of attorney, Argentine nationality by option, apostilles for Argentine and US documents, life certificates, travel authorisations for minors and other notarial work. The representation divides inquiries among documentation, visas, assistance to Argentinians, notarial services and cultural or commercial promotion. Visa applicants, for example, are directed to email the relevant section to check requirements and arrange an interview rather than use the general DNI appointment calendar.
One useful distinction is the consulate’s own explanation of a consular visa, legalisation and apostille. A consular visa confirms that a document was presented to the consular authority, but the page says it does not certify authenticity or replace an apostille. For notarial acts, powers of attorney or documents intended for use in Argentina, the catalogue specifies channels, appointments and formalities according to the document and its origin; a stamp should not be assumed to satisfy every receiving institution.
The exact Google Maps listing reviewed for this guide includes favourable accounts praising staff guidance and help with document procedures, as well as accounts of different visits. Reviews are individual perceptions and do not replace published requirements. The practical preparation is to confirm which section handles the file, whether remote service is available, which originals are required and whether the appointment has been confirmed.
The office is in Midtown Manhattan near Fifth Avenue; final access depends on transport and building arrangements. Check the address and hours before setting out and review the visitor policy. The Consulate General of Argentina in New York profile consolidates key information, while official pages explain each procedure.

New York is the reference post for eight states, but service channels are divided by procedure. DNI cards and passports use online appointments; life certificates may be handled remotely, while other matters go through the relevant section. The office receives visitors by appointment only and lists a midday break, so verify the date, hours and document checklist before travelling to Midtown.
