The Alaska Education Grant is need-based aid for students pursuing higher education or vocational training at a participating institution in Alaska. The official published range is $500 to $4,000 per academic year; it is not a guaranteed award for every eligible applicant. The Student Aid Index calculated through FAFSA affects priority, along with filing date and enrollment intensity certified by the school.
To apply, students must complete FAFSA each year and list at least one participating Alaska institution. Applicants must be admitted to an undergraduate degree or vocational-certificate program, enrolled at least half time, have no prior bachelor’s degree, and maintain the satisfactory academic progress required by their school. The eligible-provider list may include universities, colleges, and training providers; do not assume a program qualifies simply because it is located in Alaska.
Funding is limited, and the commission warns that meeting eligibility rules does not guarantee an award. Allocation gives priority to prior AEG recipients, earlier FAFSA submissions, and full-time over part-time enrollment until funds run out. File FAFSA early, monitor the Alaska Student Aid Portal, and ask the financial-aid office how the grant combines with other aid without exceeding the institution’s recognized cost of attendance.
Before accepting aid, verify in writing who may apply, what costs it covers, whether it renews, and how it interacts with FAFSA and other scholarships. Confirm dates in the official portal and ask the college for your remaining net cost.
Read the program profile and FAFSA guide; ask for an individual review before committing.
