About Casa Mãe
Casa Mãe, boutique hotel in the historic centre of Lagos
Casa Mãe is a boutique hotel located in the historic centre of Lagos, in southern Portugal. The accommodation presents itself as more than a hotel: it occupies an abandoned estate by the sea that was restored and turned into a holiday casa. The property is defined by a sunny, relaxed atmosphere, geared towards rest and enjoyment of the Algarve coast.
Three buildings, three room styles
The hotel distributes its rooms across three buildings with distinct atmospheres. The available styles are boho chic, minimalist and vintage, and all share, according to the accommodation's description, the same relaxed and luminous character. Among the room types mentioned are Standard, Standard Premium, Superior, Deluxe, Deluxe Cabanas, Padaria, Esplanada, Horta, Heritage, Baluarte and Horta Suite.
Most rooms have only a double bed. The Standard, Standard Premium, Superior, Deluxe and Horta Suite categories offer the possibility of separate beds. The hotel states that it does not apply price differences between single and double occupancy.
Accommodation for families and additional services
The hotel welcomes guests of any age. In certain room types —Deluxe Cabanas, Padaria, Esplanada, Horta, Heritage and Baluarte— it is possible to add extra beds or cots. For babies up to three years old, the additional cost is €25 per day and includes the cot and a baby kit. For children from three to ten years old, a roll-away bed is offered for €25 per day. The Baluarte and Padaria suites have proper extra beds suitable for adults and for children over ten years old, at a cost of €65 per night. The additional daily fee includes breakfast for the extra guest. The hotel notes that most rooms have a romantic design, with an open bathroom and a tub integrated into the room, and that adding extra beds reduces circulation space.
As for pets, only service dogs are admitted, with a valid certificate at the time of check-in.
Three saltwater pools
The property has three saltwater pools. The main pool is located next to the estate house and is open to all guests. The adults-only pool is situated next to the modern building. The SPA panoramic pool is accessible by booking and includes the spa circuit. The hotel warns that the pools remain ungated most of the time and that there is no lifeguard team, so it recommends constant supervision of children both in the pools and in the gardens.
Seasonal, farm-to-table cuisine
The hotel's dining offering is based on seasonal products from Portugal, following the farm-to-table tradition. According to the property's description, the dishes are prepared by its chefs with homegrown products, homebaked and homemade in the house. Bringing food from outside is not allowed for hygiene and safety reasons; for outside drinks consumed on the premises, a corkage fee applies.
Surroundings: Lagos, Costa Vicentina and the Algarve
The hotel is located in Lagos, a coastal town in the Portuguese Algarve. The area combines long sandy beaches with rocky coves, and the nearby Costa Vicentina is known for its surf spots, its wild coastline and its sunsets. The accommodation presents itself as a base for exploring this environment.
Access and arrival
The hotel describes different ways of getting there from Lisbon and from Faro. From Lisbon airport, the journey via the A22 motorway is approximately 2.5 hours by car; an alternative route along the coast, following the N120, allows stops in small towns and takes between 5 and 6 hours. From Faro airport, Lagos is about 50 minutes away via the A22.
There is free public parking a few metres from the hotel, behind the city walls. The hotel warns that its location on the edge of Lagos' historic centre can make car access difficult and offers instructions for parking. Guests staying at Casa Mãe or in a Cabana and arriving between 10:00 and 18:00 should park and go to Casa Mãe's reception; otherwise, check-in takes place at the main reception, at Jogo da Bola, available 24 hours.
By plane, in addition to Lisbon and Faro airports, the possibility is mentioned of flying by light aircraft from Cascais to Portimão airfield in about 40 minutes, with a taxi to the hotel of about €25 and fares bookable from €70. By bus, the company EVA operates several daily services from Sete Rios station, in Lisbon, with a journey of 3 hours and 45 minutes and tickets at €20 one way; from Faro, the journey is 2 hours and 10 minutes and the ticket costs €6. By train, Comboios de Portugal (CP) offers several daily services from Lisbon and from Faro to Lagos, with journeys of approximately 4 hours and 1.5 to 2 hours respectively; the Alfa Pendular, which covers Porto-Faro, allows booking a first-class seat.
