About Visma
Visma, the Norwegian group that brings together more than 150 business software companies
Visma is a group headquartered in Oslo that owns and backs business software companies, helping them become leaders in their respective markets. The company presents itself as the world's largest business software network and focuses its activity on mission-critical management software for businesses and local governments.
Its ownership model combines what it describes as the agility of a local brand with the industrial scale of a global leader: acquired companies stay close to their customers, operate in their own language and under their own laws, and receive backing in the form of capital, technology, talent and expertise from the group. According to its own presentation, acquisition is the beginning of a new chapter for each company that joins.
A network with more than 150 companies and 2.7 million customers
The group states that it has more than 150 companies and 2.7 million customers, with revenue of EUR 3,059 million in the first half of 2026 (LTM). Its stated mission is to make business administration effortless for SMBs and to enable local governments to serve, while its vision is to shape the future of society through technology.
The company says it has maintained double-digit growth in both revenue and results for two decades, and maintains that its business model has proven resilient regardless of economic cycles.
From the merger of three software companies to international expansion
Visma was founded in 1996 from the merger of three software companies and that same year listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange with the goal of offering better management tools to businesses in Norway and Sweden. Its name comes from the acronym Visual Management Applications.
In 1997, after financial difficulties, Øystein Moan took over as CEO and shifted the strategy toward accounting software and business process outsourcing (BPO). In 2000 the company sold its marine division to free up resources for growth. In 2002 it entered the public market with debt collection and temporary staffing services. In 2006, Hg Capital acquired a controlling stake and the company delisted from the Oslo Stock Exchange; that same year it took its first step outside the Nordic countries, entering the Netherlands.
Between 2007 and 2010 the workforce grew from 300 to 3,700 employees over twelve years, the new headquarters was established in Skøyen in 2009, and the US private equity firm KKR became majority shareholder in 2010, in a deal that valued Visma at NOK 11,000 million. The company then made its first move into IT consulting and set SaaS and cloud computing as priorities.
Expansion milestones: from the Nordic countries to Latin America
In 2012 it launched Visma.net ERP, a pioneering SaaS solution for the SMB market. In 2014 its valuation reached NOK 21,000 million, it entered the Latvian market and sold its BPO division to Hg Capital. In 2017, Hg Capital led a new investor group that valued the company at NOK 45,000 million, and Visma expanded strongly in Poland, Estonia, Hungary and Latin America. In 2019 it gained global recognition as the main sponsor of the Team Jumbo-Visma cycling team.
In 2020 Merete Hverven replaced Øystein Moan as CEO. During the pandemic, its cloud software became established as critical infrastructure for society, and the company entered Belgium, Romania, Austria and Spain. In 2022 it sold its IT consulting and infrastructure (CIS) services to become a pure software company; despite global economic turbulence, it reached record revenue of EUR 1,970 million and 1.4 million customers in Europe and Latin America.
In 2023, with the expansion of generative artificial intelligence, the company counted hundreds of AI initiatives across the group, closed the year with record revenue of EUR 2,400 million and 1.7 million customers, and entered Portugal and Iceland. In 2024 it entered Italy and Croatia and doubled its customer base in four years to 2 million. In 2025 it added 400,000 more customers to reach 2.4 million and expanded its global footprint with entry into Brazil, South America's largest economy, while continuing its AI transformation with automation and advisory solutions for customers and internal productivity improvements.

The group structures its activity around mission-critical software companies, with particular focus on innovation and artificial intelligence, sustainability, and ethics and compliance.
