About Fjord Tours
Fjord Tours turns Norway’s fjords into a journey connecting trains, boats, and buses. The company has organized trips since 1982 and created Norway in a Nutshell. Its offering is built around self-guided itineraries with arranged connections: travelers follow the route themselves, while the organization brings together the transport needed to move from a city to a valley, port, or mountain railway.
Norway in a Nutshell brings several of those transitions together. It combines the Nærøyfjord with the Flåm Railway and Bergen Railway and can start in Oslo or Bergen. It operates year-round, from one day, with opportunities to extend the itinerary. Its appeal lies in the changing perspective: scenery seen from the water appears again from the train, at different heights and distances.
Alternatives distinguish between fjords and seasons. Sognefjord in a Nutshell operates from April through October; Hardangerfjord in a Nutshell, from May through September, includes orchard scenery and Vøringsfossen waterfall. The Geirangerfjord itinerary requires at least two days and is offered from June through September. These are trips with their own identities and durations rather than interchangeable variations on the same excursion.
Other combinations broaden the journey. The itinerary joining Preikestolen and Norway in a Nutshell starts at three days, between May and September. Cities & Coastal Cruise, available year-round from four days, connects cities with coastal sailing, with options to begin in Trondheim, Oslo, or Bergen. Dates and starting points are part of choosing the itinerary.
The route can be supplemented with hotel nights and specific activities: kayaking, hikes, fjord cruises, or guided experiences. Viewpoints such as Stegastein and places such as Borgund Stave Church are among the options for extending a trip. Additional services, including separately offered luggage transport, allow the journey to be adapted without confusing them with what each program includes.
The organization makes it possible to extend a stay rather than fit every connection into the shortest possible time. That flexibility is useful for travelers who want to linger in a town or spread their transport over several days. Support is provided remotely; the Bergen office does not offer in-person sales or assistance. The model combines local planning with the freedom to explore Norway at a chosen pace.
