Rocket Mobile
New Zealand mobile operator with unlimited data, calls and SMS plans without contract, backed by the One NZ network and awarded best value provider at the NZ Compare Awards.
About Rocket Mobile
Rocket Mobile, unlimited data mobile operator in New Zealand
Rocket Mobile is a New Zealand mobile operator that offers phone plans with unlimited data, calls and SMS, with no lock-in contracts and pay upfront. The company presents itself as a low-cost alternative with no surprise charges, and operates on the One NZ network, which according to the company covers 98.5% of the New Zealand population.
Its proposition is built around the idea of unlimited data at the speed chosen by the user, rather than plans with data rollover, per GB charges or so-called unlimited plans that reduce speed. All plans include unlimited calls and SMS to standard New Zealand and Australian numbers, and feature WiFi calling to stay connected in weak coverage areas.
Plans and contract options
Rocket Mobile's catalogue is organised into unlimited monthly plans, unlimited weekly plans, group plans and capped data plans. Within the unlimited monthly plans, the company distinguishes three tiers called Rocket, Rocket Plus and Rocket Max, which differ by connection speed. Sign-up is pay upfront and without a twelve-month contract, so users can change plans without penalty.
The company does not apply credit checks or require New Zealand identification: simply providing a valid credit or debit card is enough to sign up. It also does not apply credit card surcharges or voicemail fees, and bills by calendar months instead of 28-day cycles.
Additional services and overseas connectivity
Rocket Mobile offers an eSIM that allows connection in minutes on compatible devices, with activation only in New Zealand. For overseas travel, it has an international add-on, a daily roaming add-on and a roaming eSIM. The international add-on costs $10 and includes 250 calling minutes and 50 SMS to use within 30 days. Daily roaming allows using New Zealand data, minutes and SMS for $9 per day in the destinations included in that option.
Capped data plans include a set amount of max speed data and unlimited calls and SMS to New Zealand and Australia. In these plans, voicemail is free, MMS/PXT are not available and using messaging apps is recommended. Unlimited plans include ten free MMS/PXT per month to New Zealand mobiles. Calls and SMS to premium-rate numbers are not available on pay upfront plans.
Referral programme and account management
The company has a referral programme whereby the customer and the referred person each receive $20 account credit. Plan management, payment method and other settings are handled through the user's personal account.
Awards and network
Rocket Mobile was recognised as Best Value Mobile Provider at the NZ Compare Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025, an award the company highlights in its communications. Its network relies on One NZ, which according to the company has been recognised as New Zealand's best mobile network between 2021 and 2026 by the independent benchmarking organisation umlaut, part of Accenture.
The company is part of MyRepublic Limited and also operates in Australia and Singapore, according to the country selectors on its website.
