About Ourvets Halswell
Ourvets Halswell Veterinary Clinic in Christchurch
Ourvets Halswell is a veterinary clinic located on Halswell Road, in the Halswell suburb of Christchurch. It is part of Ourvets, a multi-location practice where each veterinarian's areas of expertise complement one another to form an extensive portfolio of clinical knowledge. The clinic treats dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rats, mice and birds, and provides services six days a week.
Veterinary services and clinical capabilities
The clinic offers consultations, dentistry, desexing and health checks, along with a wider range of services. Its capabilities include animal medicine and soft tissue surgery, performing both routine and advanced procedures. On the preventive side, it provides vaccinations, nutrition advice and a puppy playschool.
The clinic's equipment includes veterinary digital radiography, ultrasonography and in-house diagnostics, which the clinic itself describes as the southernmost equipment of its kind on the South Island. The veterinary nursing team makes sure animals' stays are as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
Professional team
The staff combines veterinarians with a range of interests and experience — medicine, surgery and animal behaviour — along with nursing and reception staff. The veterinary team consists of Simon as lead vet, together with Lucia, Zoe, Ginnie and Caitlin. In the support area, Jessica works as head nurse, Christa as practice manager and senior nurse, Stacey and Taylor as veterinary nurses, Takara as veterinary nurse and Steph in reception.
The clinic approaches its care from the starting point of advice: giving clients a good understanding of health problems and treatment options so they can make informed decisions about their animal's ongoing care.
Service area
Thanks to its location in Halswell, the clinic regularly receives animals from Halswell, Aidanfield, Wigram, Prebbleton, Templeton and Rolleston.
Involvement with the local community
The team takes part in the annual Bark in the Park event, runs free microchip clinics and works with local schools on activities to educate people about responsible pet ownership.
Consultation hours
The clinic is open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 7:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm. It is closed on Sundays and refers urgent cases to the Christchurch After Hours Vet Clinic; it also closes on public holidays.
