About DJ.Studio

DJ.Studio, DJ mixing software with a studio workflow

DJ.Studio is a desktop application for Mac and Windows that works as a timeline-based DAW for DJs. The program lets you add tracks, order them by tempo and key, and edit each transition on a timeline before exporting the final mix as audio or video. The company presents it as a tool for building and exporting mixes, not for live performance: many users prepare their sets in DJ.Studio and then perform them in rekordbox, Serato, or Traktor. It doesn't require a controller or additional hardware, as it runs entirely on your laptop.

Mixes, mashups, and radio shows

The product is geared toward creating DJ mixes, mashups, radio shows, and mixed videos. Its capabilities include harmonic mixing, beat-matched transitions, automation, stem separation, sound effects, and transition editing. The Harmonize tool automatically orders a playlist based on millions of calculations, using BPM, key, and user preferences, with a harmonic matching approach inspired by the Camelot Wheel. The Mixed In Key module provides energy levels and cue points. Users can adjust track length, transitions, and tempo, apply multiple effects at once, and create their own automations, as well as finalize the mix with their own samples.

Export, visualization, and workflow

Mixes can be exported to a local file, WAV or MP3, or directly to Mixcloud, with automatic tracklist generation. You can also export to YouTube and Ableton Live. The music visualizer feature lets you add visualizations and export as MP4 for uploading to YouTube. Recording is done at five times normal speed, according to the company, without loss of quality or precision. DJ.Studio integrates with Mixed In Key, rekordbox, Serato, VirtualDJ, Engine DJ, TRAKTOR, iTunes, and your computer library, and supports streaming sources like Beatport, Beatsource, and YouTube.

Audience and project origins

The application is aimed at bedroom DJs, professional DJs, mobile DJs, radio DJs, producers, and live artists. The company claims to have more than 360,000 users. The project began with an idea by Siebrand Dijkstra, who after buying back his own software company in 2021 brought together a group of developers from AppMachine to build a tool to replace MixMeister, an application that only ran on Windows and became obsolete ten years earlier. The team first worked on tempo and key detection and the mixing engine; by 2022 there was a working foundation shared privately for feedback, and later integrations with rekordbox, Serato, Apple Music, YouTube, and Beatport were developed. The core team is based in the north of the Netherlands and, according to the company, releases versions almost weekly.

Access model

The site offers a seven-day free trial without requiring payment details and without automatic conversion to a paid plan. The company sells paid plans, a student and teacher option, and an affiliate program. The web version is listed as legacy.
