WestCord Hotels

Dutch family hotel group founded on Vlieland, with properties on the Wadden Islands and in several cities.

About WestCord Hotels

WestCord sounds international, but the hotel group began on a Dutch island. In 1968, Emo Westers bought Hotel de Wadden on Vlieland for his son Harry. That first property grew into a family-owned group with hotels on the Wadden Islands and in cities including Amsterdam, Delft, Groningen, Leeuwarden, Eindhoven, and Rotterdam.

There is no single WestCord stay. On Vlieland, travelers can choose between a village setting and a beachfront hotel; on Terschelling, properties sit near the bay or the woods. The same brand also serves visitors seeking a city base for museums, markets, and walkable neighborhoods. Start with the destination and pace of the trip.

Some hotels keep a name and history that define the visit. Hotel New York in Rotterdam occupies the former Holland-Amerika Line building; ss Rotterdam lets guests sleep aboard a former ocean liner. Hotel Arsenaal in Delft and Hotel Jakarta in Amsterdam show other ways a property can relate to its setting.

The group website lets travelers compare rooms, packages, restaurants, bars, and meeting spaces. It also presents cycling breaks and food-focused stays. These options vary by property: a restaurant with views in Leeuwarden is not part of a booking on Vlieland, and a city meeting room does not describe an island hotel.

The group identifies itself as a Westers family business. It has grown from Hotel de Wadden into a portfolio of distinct properties, some operating as “by WestCord” hotels. That variety explains how two hotels can share a service philosophy while having different architecture, neighborhoods, and activities.

For a sound booking decision, study the particular hotel’s location in relation to a station or ferry, room size, access, restaurant, cancellation terms, and services available on the chosen dates. On the islands, ferry schedules shape arrival; in a city, distance from the neighborhood you want to explore may matter more.

WestCord is best used as a map of Dutch places to stay, not a promise of the same experience everywhere. Family history connects the properties, while each responds to a specific place. Choosing the setting—sea, island, city center, or historic building—is the decision that will guide the stay.
