About RentHunter
RentHunter: instant alerts for renting in the Netherlands
RentHunter is a digital platform that automates the search for rental housing in the Netherlands. Its system scans over 1,100 sources in the Dutch market —major real estate portals, agency websites, local platforms, student portals, and expat housing sites— and notifies the user in real time when a listing that matches their filters appears. The service is available on iOS, Android, and web, and is presented as a tool designed for expats, students, and young professionals.
How automated search works
The process is divided into four steps. First, the user sets their filters: city, budget, size, and move-in date, a setup the platform estimates takes about three minutes. Then, the system continuously monitors the tracked sources and sends alerts the moment a new match is published. According to the website's own data, more than 20,000 listings are scanned every day and hundreds of new listings are added.
The third step is one-click applying: the user builds their profile once and the platform generates a personalized message using artificial intelligence that can be sent to multiple platforms simultaneously. The fourth step involves tracking all applications from a single dashboard, with the option to review the lease agreement before signing and to get help setting up utilities.
Listings and geographic coverage
The website shows an active inventory of 22,484 rentals and breaks down the supply by property type: 3,631 apartments, 376 rooms, 198 houses, and 167 studios. By city, Amsterdam has 4,561 listings, followed by Rotterdam (2,086), The Hague (1,758), Utrecht (1,263), Groningen (1,209), Maastricht (828), Eindhoven (844), Haarlem (569), Tilburg (497), Leiden (459), Almere (333), Nijmegen (331), Breda (330), and Zwolle (246).
User profile and value proposition
The platform explicitly targets expats, students, and young professionals, and operates entirely in English, with no need to speak Dutch. Its selling points include listing verification, scam detection, and a pricing policy the company describes as transparent. The website states that more than 12,000 users have used the service and that the average rating is 4.5 out of 5 based on 339 renters.
Guarantee and terms of service
RentHunter offers what it calls a risk-free guarantee: cancel anytime from your account, personal support from a member of the team, and a full refund within the first 30 days. The service can be started for free.
Origin of the project
The company was founded by Nicolas, Romain, and Fabien, three friends who moved from France to Amsterdam in August 2023 and who, after facing the difficulty of the Dutch rental market, built the tool they themselves needed. They found their own home in three days and began giving access to acquaintances before turning the project into an open service. The company maintains a blog and an affiliate program.
