About Cobra Café Amsterdam

Cobra Café stands at 18 Hobbemastraat, on the edge of Museumplein beside the Van Gogh Museum. Its identity is more than a museum-district address: the business began in 1999 in collaboration with artists from the CoBrA group and credits figures including Karel Appel and Corneille with designing elements of its floors, chairs and tableware. The visual setting extends the art-filled afternoon, though the museum's paintings belong to a different story. You can enter from the street without a Van Gogh Museum ticket.

The official menu includes sandwiches, Dutch snacks such as bitterballen, juices, local beers and apple pie made each day. It opens daily from 10:30 to 19:00, useful for an early lunch or a drink after leaving the museum. From here it is easy to cross Museumplein, walk towards the Rijksmuseum or reach tram stops without a long detour. Do not confuse it with Bistro Vincent, which is inside the museum and requires valid admission.

Some visitors enjoy the terrace, art-minded surroundings and convenience of eating between museums. Others question service speed, the ordering process or value for money. That variation matters more than proximity alone: choose Cobra if you want to sit right by the square and watch the district, but do not count on a guaranteed quick lunch. For an earlier breakfast or a fuller brunch dish, Blushing lies on the other side of the route.
