Sussurro, a design boutique hotel on the coast of Mozambique

Sussurro is a design boutique hotel set on the tropical shore of a secluded saltwater lagoon in southern Mozambique. It presents itself as a space designed to align with nature and to live a more meaningful travel experience, within what it describes as a conscious narrative of African travel.

Accommodation: private bungalows and family suite

Accommodation is arranged in private bungalows offering over a thousand square feet of personal space surrounded by nature. Each suite includes indoor and outdoor bathing facilities, as well as generous water front verandahs. Mozambican vernacular architecture weaves a natural canopy above billowing mosquito nets, and large apertures allow the colours of an ever changing landscape to permeate the space. Rooms are furnished with pieces created and carved onsite and with selected artisanal objects from sub-saharan Africa.

The Family Suite is presented as an expansive retreat crafted for moments of quiet connection, nestled within the hotel's remote coastal wilderness. It maintains the restrained luxury, handcrafted details and essence of place that define Sussurro's culture. It spans 251 square meters within its own acre of beachfront and includes indoor and outdoor bathing areas, a private pool and a dedicated dining pavilion.

Shared spaces and wellness

Shared facilities include a gallery, a library, a lap pool, a guest bar, a restaurant, beach and an outdoor yoga deck. The hotel defines itself as a spa and presents these spaces as places to gather and restore. Its stated commitment to a more conscious African experience is reflected, according to its own presentation, in each design and amenity.

Location and access

Sussurro is located on the Nhamabue Peninsula, just north of Vilanculos, Mozambique. Access is by helicopter or drive from Vilanculos airport. All transfers must be arranged in advance with the reservations team. The residence does not accept day guests unless by prior arrangement with management, and asks that the privacy of guests in residence be respected.
